Choosing the Right Promotional Products for You
It’s a hot trend in business promotion to purchase small gifts to give away free to customers, potential and actual, and to have them stamped with your business name and logo. In that way you both build amity between you and the public and provide yourself with advertising, since most people will keep, use and look at a mug, clock, candle or mp3 player much more than they ever would a flyer or brochure.
The problem is, there is a bewildering array of these goods available from websites that sell various promotional products, about 300,000 in all. How on earth will you choose among them? Here are some tips:
1) Determine your budget. How much you can afford to spend on promotions will have a major effect on your choices.
2) Think about who you plan to give them to. Do these items represent small trinkets to be handed out as a part of tradeshow promotions? Are they corporate gifts for fellow businessmen, gifts upon getting a free estimate or rewards to already loyal and faithful clientele? That will effect both the number you need and the size and value of each individual item.
3) Chose something that fits your company. You can purchase anything from tape measures to poker sets to aromatherapy candles and coloring books. If your business is construction, it doesn’t make sense for you to hand out bath and body sets. If you sell cooking supplies, a gift of a first aid kit may give the wrong impression. Be guided by what’s appropriate for your industry, and for the image you want to project.
4) Think about what will look good with your logo and slogan on it. Chose colors from the company logo. You want something that both makes people think of your business, and which is also attractive enough to not be considered tacky. You want them keep your item where it can be seen, not stash it at the back of the cupboard.
With all these factors in mind, narrow down your choices. Don’t feel like you can only choose one—the more variety you have to offer, the better.
