Jordan’s Furniture to open at the Warwick Mall

WARWICK – Jordan’s Furniture announced on Tuesday that it plans to open its first Rhode Island store at the Warwick Mall in the fall.

Jordan’s will move into the former quarters of Old Navy, which relocated to a smaller storefront in the building after floods devastated the mall in March 2010. Jordan’s will join JC Penney, Macy’s and Target as the mall’s anchor tenants. Jordan’s said it expects the new store – the company’s fifth – to employ about 100 people.

“After considerable research and site reviews, the space in the Warwick Mall is perfectly suited for us,” company President and CEO Eliot Tatelman said. “We are very excited about the prospects of providing Rhode Islanders with a vast assortment of high-quality furniture and mattresses.”

The new 100,000-square-foot store will include two levels of showrooms, along with customer “attractions.”

Heather Copelas, a spokeswoman for the company, said those attractions had yet to be decided.

“There are many different ideas and concepts,” she said.

Jordan’s Furniture locations elsewhere feature an IMAX 3D theater, a city made of jellybeans, an indoor trapeze school, a Las Vegas-style water show, a 48-seat motion-simulation theater, a laser light show and a Mardi Gras show.

The addition of Jordan’s Furniture comes to a mall that suffered between $80 million and $100 million in damage during flooding in March 2010. The Old Navy space has been the last vacant large retail space.

The Warwick Mall will be the first Jordan’s location attached to a mall, Copelas said.
