‘Wrap It Up’ snack shop opens near business incubator on John Street
EVANSVILLE — Karin Willett, a cooking enthusiast and frequent viewer of Food Network shows, has gone into business for herself, opening her version of “a neighborhood snack shop.”
Called Wrap It Up, the business quietly opened a week ago in the U.S. Incubator at 815 John St.
The location overlooks the Lloyd Expressway, near the U.S. 41 exit east of Downtown Evansville.
Willett is the sole owner and operator of the tiny eatery, which currently offers only carryout orders.
“I’m waiting to see how well it takes off. If it does well, I’ll move it to larger quarters,” Willett said.
She has been keeping a low profile, not wanting to be overwhelmed by food orders.
“Last Wednesday, I got hit pretty hard at once by several neighboring businesses and agencies with orders to fill,” Willett said.
But, it was a good kind of hit, she said.
“I opened here, figuring the surrounding tenants needed a place nearby to get something to eat.”
Wrap It Up’s menu includes homemade soups; Jalapeno, garlic herb and other-flavored wraps; tuna salad, chicken salad, fried bologna, grilled cheese and barbecue sandwiches; chips and candy; and freshly baked muffins and brownies as well as cheesecake, pies and gourmet bread.
Willett operated the former Bookmark cafe in the Ohio Township Central Library in Newburgh, Ind.
She continues as a caterer via her Wrap It Up.
